Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is always ready to face elections and is sure of sweeping the Patkura and Bijepur by-polls said Kendrapara MLA Shashi Bhusan Behera on Sunday.

During 2014 elections, the BJD had won three out of five assembly seats in Kendrapara district but now it has bagged four seats and will also emerge victorious in the remaining one Patkura assembly seat, he asserted.

On being asked if a blueprint is ready for the upcoming polls, Behera said the BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik is always alert in this regard and from the first day of being elected as the Chief Minister for the fifth term Patnaik has already announced about his preparedness for the sixth term.

As per the election trends, the people of Odisha have chosen Patnaik as their Chief Minister and the trend will be repeated in Bijepur and Patkura, he added.

It is worthwhile to mention that BJD had bagged the Mahakalpada, Patkura and Kendrapara assembly seats in 2014 assembly polls, while the remaining two Aul and Rajnagar assembly seats went to Congress.

The by-poll for Patkura assembly seat was necessitated after the sudden demise of BJD candidate Bed Prakash Agarwalla. Earlier the poll was scheduled to be held on May 19 instead of April 29, but it was further postponed for 60 days due to cyclone FANI.

On the other hand, after winning from both Bijepur and Hinjli assembly seats Chief Minister Patnaik had to vacate one of them. Patnaik vacated the Bijepur seat triggering another by-poll in the constituency.
