Bhubaneswar: BJD’s election coordination committee for the Bijepur by-poll will be meeting on Monday to take the final call on the party’s candidate from the assembly segment.
Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, senior BJD leader Sanjay Dasburma said that the committee will be making an assessment of all aspirants and their work in the grassroots. “We will give our report to party chief Naveen Patnaik, who will make the final decision on the candidate,” he said.
Since its inception, BJD takes all the by-polls with seriousness and there is nothing such as friendly fight for our party, said Dasburma when asked about BJP’s proximity to the regional party.
“Soon after the general election results were announced and our Government was formed, the Chief Minister fulfilled all the commitments which were promised to the people of Bijepur. We will win this election with the blessings of the people of Bijepur,” Dasburma added.
On the other hand, BJP MP Basanta Panda said that its candidate will be announced at the time of filing of nominations. “We are a national party and our national president’s decision will be final over candidature. We will win this election for sure,” Panda said.
Similarly, Odisha Congress president Niranjan Patnaik said that the party will meet on September 24 to take the crucial decision for the Bijepur candidate.
