Sambalpur: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will fully support and participate in the Sambalpur bandh called by farmers’ organisations on December 19, former minister and district BJD president Rohit Pujari announced on Monday.
In a press statement, Pujari said the bandh has been called to protest what he described as the BJP-led government’s failure in managing the paddy procurement process. He alleged that farmers are facing severe harassment due to large-scale mismanagement in token distribution and delays in procurement.
Accusing the government of pursuing anti-farmer policies, Pujari said the ongoing crisis has pushed farmers into distress at a crucial time of the agricultural season. He maintained that the administration’s inefficiency has directly affected the livelihoods of cultivators across Sambalpur district.
Reiterating the party’s commitment, the former minister said the Sambalpur BJD stands firmly with the farming community and is prepared to fight for their rights at every level. He added that the party will actively join the bandh in solidarity with farmers demanding immediate corrective measures.
Farmers’ organisations have announced the December 19 bandh seeking smooth paddy procurement, transparent token management, and relief from what they term as systemic administrative lapses.
