**Puri: ** In a bid to register its protest against the “ECoR Division” allegedly conspired by the BJP-led Centre, Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has decided to demonstrate before East Coast Railway (ECoR) headquarters tomorrow in the State capital city Bhubaneswar.
Convening a press meet today here, senior MLA and BJD general secretary Sanjay Kumar Dasburma said, “Tomorrow (March 2) at 10 am, BJD Youth, Student and Women wings will demonstrate before the ECoR headquarters in Bhubaneswar.”
“If the Central Government won’t change its stand of cutting Waltair Division from ECoR conspired by the BJP to destroy Railways in Odisha, all the frontal wings of BJD will take to the streets and further intensify its stir state-wide,” he threatened.
The BJD general secretary in his press statement has argued, “The new Southern Coast Railway (SCoR) was not a mandatory provision under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act and the Act had the provision to “examine” establishing of a new Railway. Railways Ministry had constituted a high level committee to examine this provision and the same professional and internal committee of Railways in 2016 has unanimously rejected the idea of forming SCoR by taking away jurisdiction from ECoR. Naturally, the same report has been hidden from public view for the last 3 years.”
“This new zone of SCoR coming just days before the Union elections clearly exhibits that it has been done only for political purpose at the cost of the development of Odisha and its railways,” the BJD leader alleged.
He also stated, “On 16th February, 2018, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in a letter to Railways Minister Piyush Goel had opposed this very move of taking away from ECoR and the Waltier Division in order to set up of a new Railway Zone headquartered in the State of Andhra Pradesh.”
He further stated, “Odisha’s demand which has been placed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has been to unify railways within Odisha under the ECoR by creating three more Railway Divisions under the East Coast Railway (ECoR) with the proposed headquarters being Rourkela, Jajpur/Jajpur-Keonjhar Road and Rayagada. This would help in building more competency and capacity for the Railways in Odisha.”
