Bhubaneswar: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sushil Kumar Lohani today addressed a press conference following the end of counting of votes for Padampur bye-elections.
According to the final results declared by the CEO, Barsha Singh Bariha of the BJD defeated her nearest rival, Pradip Purohit of the BJP by a margin of 42,679 votes.
While Bariha got 1,20,807 votes, Purohit bagged 78,128 votes. Congress party candidate Satya Bhushan Sahu received 3,594 votes, Lohani said.
Similarly, 3,687 votes were cast in favour of other smaller parties and independent candidates while 2,087 votes were cast in NOTA (non of the above) category.
“This is the final tally after completion of counting. It includes 300 postal ballots out of which 48 were rejected and 252 were found valid to be counted,” Lohani stated.
