Sundargarh: A youth leader of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his room in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Tuesday.
The victim, identified as Dhiraj Prasad, was the president of BJD’s Sundargarh Town unit.
According to reports, Dhiraj was found hanging in his residence in Bhitiriapada locality in Sundargarh town. The reason why he took such an extreme step is yet to be ascertained.
As the news spread, hundreds of people, including BJD workers, gathered outside his residence. Sources said Prasad was popular among locals as a people-friendly leader.
Police said a case of unnatural death has been registered and an investigation is underway.
