Cuttack: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Corporator from Ward no. 49 Damayanti Majhi was today elected unopposed as the Deputy Mayor of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).
Since no other candidate had filed nominations for the post of Deputy Mayor and Majhi was the lone candidate who had filed nomination for the post, she was declared elected by Electoral Officer.
“It gives me pleasure that after so much struggle in my life I could reach this position of Deputy Mayor.
My priority will be solving myriad problems faced by the people of the city,” said Majhi to reporters after being declared elected as the Deputy Mayor of CMC.
On being asked what are her plans for the people living in the city slums, Majhi said,”I myself come from a slum. I know the variety of problems faced by the people in slums-drinking water, drainage, lighting, etc. I will give my best efforts to solve the problems faced by the people of the city”.
Majhi thanked BJD president Naveen Patnaik, BJD leaders, workers and the people of Ward no.49 for her election to the post of Deputy Mayor.
