Bhubaneswar: Even as the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal has adviced both Chhattisgarh and Odisha governments for an amicable resolution of the river water sharing issue, the Biju Janata Dal said that it was not optimistic about the ‘mutual discussion'.

During Uma Bharati’s tenure the tripartite discussion failed in the past. Similarly, when Rahul Gandhi and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel were in Western Odisha, the two leaders remained silent on the Mahanadi issue, BJD Spokesperson Sasmit Patra said.

“We had always expected and were hopeful that mutual discussion would resolve the issue. With this mindset we had gone to Delhi but were betrayed. The attitude of both BJP and Congress on the Mahanadi issue reflects their bias against Odisha,” he added

The State Government will take a decision on the Tribunal's advice very soon and act accordingly within next week, said Patra.

The Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal on Saturday concluded the hearing on the interim application filed by Odisha government pleading for release of 1.74 million acre-foot water by Chhattisgarh during non-monsoon months.
