Bhubaneswar: BJP leader Jagannath Pradhan, arrested for allegedly assaulting Additional Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Ratnakar Sahu, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected.
According to reports, Pradhan was produced before the SDJM court following his arrest. The court, however, denied him bail, citing that the charges framed against him are beyond the court’s jurisdiction to grant bail. The court subsequently remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days.
It is learnt that Pradhan’s defence team plans to file a bail application in a higher court. The case is being closely watched, given the involvement of a prominent BJP leader.
Earlier, five people allegedly involved in the attack had been arrested in connection with the incident.
Notably, the OAS officers’ association had demanded Pradhan’s arrest, holding him responsible as the key conspirator behind the attack on BMC official Ratnakar Sahoo.
