**Bhubaneswar:** Activists of Odisha BJP Mahila Morcha on Thursday ransacked the office of the State Commission for Women (SCW) in the State Capital while protesting against the alleged gangrape of Kunduli’s minor girl who committed suicide on January 22.
The women activits forced their entry into the SCW office and were invovled in a violent fist-off with the police personnel deployed at the Commission chairperson Lopamudra Baxipatra’s chamber.
They damaged window panes, pillaged the notice boards and affixed pamplets alleging police and administration’s inaction over the issue.
This was followed with offering bangles to the SCW staffers. A couple of activists led by BJP Mahila Morcha president Prabhati Parida, former minister Surama Padhi and general secretary Lekhashree Samantasinghar hung bangles on the entrance of the chamber as a mark of protest.
“We have lost faith and confidence in this institution which is the meant for safeguarding the interests of women of Odisha. It is acting as a puppet of the State Government and acting on the former’s whims and fancies,” Samantasinghar said.
The minor girl was allegedly raped by four men in uniform on October 10. Samantasinghar demanded that the probe report on the incident be made public.
Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday has directed the Home Department to expand the terms of reference for the judicial inquiry already ordered into the case and has directed to include the victim’s suicide into the scope of probe.
