Baripada: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is observing a 12-hour bandh in Mayurbhanj district over a 16-point charter of demands including action against those who attacked party workers during Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s Mayurbhanj visit.
The bandh began at 6 am and will end at 6 pm. Several shops, business establishments, government, and private offices, were closed and major roads have been blocked affecting vehicular communication.
Earlier on October 23, two members of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) were arrested for allegedly thrashing BJP and JMM activists during the CM’s visit to Baripada in Mayurbhanj to distribute smart health cards of Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) and dedicated various development projects in the district.
As per sources, a scuffle broke out after two activists of JMM and BJP attempted to show black flags to the Chief Minister near the helipad when they were chased and attacked by the ruling party workers. The duo had sustained multiple injuries on the face and was immediately escorted out from the spot.
Later, Baripada Town Police registered a case in this connection and arrested the accused duo.
