BJP Roping In Bollywood Stars To Garner Crowd In Government Sponsored Programme

**Bhubaneswar:** First, it was Bollywoood singer, Sonu Nigam in the city for a musical night during the national ceremony of the Prime Minister Urja Ganga Scheme for city gas distribution through pipelines, now Udit Narayan is hogging the limelight even when two Union Ministers will be present in the upcoming Utkal Diwas programme to be held in the capital city by the BJP.

Utkal Diwas is celebrated on 1 April every year in all over Odisha in the memory of the formation of the state as a separate province on 1 April 1936. It marks the contributions of the leaders who made it possible to form Odisha as a separate state.

But BJP has roped in non-Odia Bollywood veteran playback singer Udit Narayan to perform at Janata Maidan where Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will be the guest. Is the BJP banking on the star power to maintain the momemtum it gathered during the Panchayat polls? Is the Union Minister using his clout and ministry vying to attract people to colourful programmes he is hosting on the occasion.

“The voters are very smart. They can’t be lured by false promises, so BJP is trying to lure them by roping in celebrities,” according to Mahesh Sahoo, BJD MLA.

But, BJP leader Rabi Naik said,”It is a welcome act as the schemes and initiatives taken up by the BJP government can be reached out to maximum people if they get to know about it. And through the medium of celebrities, it can be easily achieved.

Moreover, there are posts doing rounds in social medial showing resentment over BJP’s choice of stars in Utkal Diwas programme, as no Odia star has been invited for the show.
