**Balangir:** In an apparent act of taking up the challenge by BJP workers put by Odisha Agriculture Minister Pradeep Mahrathi to attack him on his visit to Balangir, eggs were hurled at the Minister’s vehicle on late Tuesday night here in the western Odisha town.
The Minister was on his way from Bhubaneswar to Balangir in full police protection led by the SDPO of Balangir who had also changed the regular route of the Minister to the district circuit house.
But this could not save the Minister from the attack as black flags were shown to him en route and finally a few BJP workers managed to hurl eggs at him as challenged by the Minister earlier.
The police has detained eight BJP workers involved in the incident on Tuesday night and has further tightened up the Minister’s security.
On Wednesday also the Minister was shown black flag and hurled eggs by the BJP activists following which four of them, including three woman, were rounded up by the police here.
The Agriculture Minister had challenged last week that if any attack was made on him by the BJP workers during his official visit to districts, then he would not allow any BJP leader’s vehicle to pass through Pipli (his constituency) when they visit Puri.
On Wednesday, Maharathy’s supporters blocked road at Pipli in protest following which commuters visiting the pilgrim town of Puri got stranded there.
