Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Berhampur MP (Lok Sabha) candidate Pradeep Panigrahi shifted to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.
On Monday, Panigrahi was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur after sustaining minor injuries during a scuffle between him and supporters of the independent candidate Shibashankar Das contesting from assembly seat while polling was on at Utkalmani UP School, Gosani Nuagoan.
The hustle started after supporters of Shibashankar Das created an uproar after the Gosani Nuagoan Police Station detained Das.
Supporters of Das stated that the tension at the polling booth began after they alleged vote rigging was being done.
Whereas, the supporters of Pradeep Panigrahi claimed that the issue started over the sealing of EVMs.
The police officials are investigating further details of the incident.
