Bhubaneswar: A man was arrested for allegedly hunting a blackbuck in Ganjam district. Four others involved in the poaching escaped during a forest department raid at Kebripalli village under Jagannath Prasad forest range.
Around 30 kg of blackbuck meat and other organs were seized. Authorities believe the accused set a live wire trap for a wild boar, but a blackbuck was electrocuted instead. Forest personnel caught Parida red-handed while the others fled.
Ganjam is the only habitat of blackbucks in Odisha, and locals traditionally protect the animal. Amulya Upadhaya, president of the blackbuck protection committee, demanded strict action against the poachers
