Bhawanipatna: “I am blind, but is the BEO office also blind,” questioned a visually-impaired student of the Upper Primary School at Beheraguda under Dharmagarh Block of Kalahandi district during a visit by the BEO and other officials on Monday, the video of which has gone viral.
Reportedly, the students of the school had been protesting for over 10 days against the shortage of teachers. The BEO (Block Education Officer), police, and other officials visited the school on Monday to understand the situation and resolve the issue when the student identified as Jashobant Chhatria vented his anger.
“I am blind by birth but is the BEO office also blind. It is not providing teachers. Is the Government, DEO, and Sub-Collector also blind,” questioned Jashobant. He said that there are 400 students in the school but they have only seven teachers while there is a need for one teacher for every 30 students.
After hearing Jashobant, BEO Naba Sahu assured to appoint new teachers within 15 days. Subsequently, School and Mass Education department rushed two new teachers to the school on Monday.
