Puri: General darshan at Puri Jagannath temple was disrupted today due to the ‘Maha Mahasnan’ ritual in the 12th-century shrine.
The special ritual was necessitated after Suar Badu Sevak Madhusudan Sunathaali fell inside the temple, and as a result, blood started oozing out from his legs. Subsequently, the Mahasnan (holy bath) ceremony was performed.
According to Sudhasuara sevak, all the food offerings (Amunia Bhog) were buried in the Koili Baikuntha or Nilachala Upavana after blood stains were found on the temple premises.
The food offerings were re-prepared and offered to the deities after the ritual purification. The temple remained closed for darshan until the rituals were completed.
