**Bhubaneswar:** Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation today carried out two eviction drives. One along the Sainik School- Damana stretch to make way for the Parallel Road and the other one between Sashtri Nagar and The World shopping complex to ensure land clearance for a bus queue shelter and other requirements before the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018.
During the eviction drive for the parallel road, 16 asbestos houses, 19 wooden cabins, one concrete house of about 500 square feet, a boundary wall of 160 feet length, three tea stalls, three temporary kiosks, and two bamboo-polythene structures were demolished.
The path of the parallel road would be Damana Square-Netaji Subhash Enclave-East Coast Railway area-Sainik School- Sainik School Square on Acharya Vihar-Kalinga Hospital Road and vice-versa.
It can be mentioned here that just like the Sainik School-Damana by-pass, another road network along the other side of the Jaydev Vihar-Nandankana road, would be developed, joining Ekamra Kanan and Niladri Vihar-Sailashri Vihar creating a parallel by-pass is also being planned for the future.
In preparation for Men’s Hockey World Cup, the joint enforcement squad of BDA and BMC removed several unauthorised structures on the roadside from Sashtri Nagar to The World shopping complex.
During the eviction drive 11 hoardings, seven structures of bamboo with polythene sheds, five tin sheeted extended sheds, two small cemented structures, one large bamboo structure were removed by the joint squad.
