BMC Categorises COVID-19 Patients, Adopts Separate Followup Strategies

Bhubaneswar: With a total of 640 cases of COVID-19 detected in the city to date, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has categorised the patients and has adopted separate strategies for followup action.

BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary today informed that 310 cases have been detected in the last 10 days, out of which 61 are hospital linked cases, 212 are those who had travel history or contact with positive cases and 37 are local cases where the link could not be established.

For cases where the link has been established, the patient is shifted to a COVID Hospital following which his contact tracing is done, his direct and secondary contacts are quarantined and the area is sanitised.

For cases where the link could not be established, 14-day active surveillance is started in the area, 50 to 100 nearby households are quarantined, direct contacts such as family members or friends are being tested, any symptomatic indirect contact found during the surveillance is also being tested and if required the area is declared as a containment zone.

Chaudhary gave examples of some cases where the strategies have been implemented such as in the case of Bluewheel Hospital, one private industry in Mancheswar and in Subhasnagar and Lakshmibazaar slums.
