Bhubaneswar: With the gradual rise in mercury, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has already prepared an action plan to deal with possible heat wave conditions in the capital city during the ensuing summer.
BMC Mayor Sulochana Das recently chaired a meeting to discuss the preparation of a realistic plan to deal with heat wave conditions in the civic area.
Addressing the officials at the meeting, the Mayor said, “The planning should cover everyone in the city and line departments needs to extend their support to prevent casualties. Water kiosks are required and regular water kiosks need to be ready by the time.”
Das instructed the officials to repair the water ATMs and ensure they function seamlessly. Health centres and casualty management plan needs to be published to manage any heat cramps and related situation that has an impact on city lives, she advised.
Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange told the officials to submit a subsection-wise plan in BMC and line departments’ preparatory at the earliest. He stressed on providing adequate facilities to particular sections of the population such as the masons and daily labourers who work under the sun. Instead of working under the direct sun in peak hours like 12 noon to 3 pm, there is a need to change their working hours.
The BMC plans to issue an SOP to make the citizens aware after preparing the section-wise plan. RWAs, SHGs and social organisations will be requested to support the initiative in their respective areas.
“The BMC may form a special team to check food and water quality at various places in the city in the upcoming summer,” said Kulange.
