Bhubaneswar: The central enforcement squad of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday conducted a raid on a restricted plastic storehouse constructed on government land behind Damana Haat and seized around five trucks of items including 2.5 ton polythene carry bags.
Reportedly, during its regular movement, the enforcement squad noticed another illegal activity of restricted plastic and clever behaviour of some people led them to the godown. During interrogation it was established that the storehouse is being run by Tukuna Sahoo who is also running a grocery shop in the Haat.
Under the instruction of Zonal Deputy Commissioner, Pramod Kumar Prusty, the squad prepared a strategy and conducted the raid and came through tons of restricted plastic goods.
In order to reconfirm the items Deputy Commissioner Sanitation, Suvendu Kumar Sahoo, sent two environment Engineers of BMC SBA Cell, Kirtiman Sarangi and Sunil Samal who reconfirmed the materials identified are restricted and single used plastic items.
Items like plastic and thermocol glass, cup and plastic carry bags below 50 micron were there in the storehouse. The accused Tukuna was running the business inside this illegal construction on rent basis. All the materials have been seized by BMC and transferred to Jatri Nivas. The accused has been fined Rs 50, 000.
The identified storehouse constructed on government land has been demarcated by BMC Amin. Based on the report, BMC will take the necessary step to demolish the construction, told Additional Commissioner Abanikanta Pattanaik.
