Bhubaneswar: To check the stray-dog population in the city without causing any harm, the BMC is prepared well for stray dog sterilization programme in Bhubaneswar soon.
The civic body has set up 250 kennels for the dogs having all basic amenities including operation theatres for the animals. The BMC is waiting for the High Court order, said commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange.
“The High Court has stayed the anti-birth control of the stray dogs. We have submitted the parawise comment in the high court and waiting for the favorable result. We have set up over 250 dog kennels in Mancheswar area scientifically. The kennels have operation theatres for anti-birth control and food, water and other basic amenities. We are prepared to begin the anti-birth operation process. Now, we are waiting for the High Court’ decision,” he added.
As many as 100 dogs can be sterilized in a day at the kennel, he said.
The stray dog menace has led to accidents and numerous dog bite cases. The dog menace in the smart city has assumed serious proportion with several dog bites cases being reported daily.
Stray dogs are seen roaming on every small and big arteries, at hospitals, bus stands, railway stations, shops, markets and near residential areas.
