Bhubaneswar: In order to enforce plastic or polythene ban within the area of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), two enforcement squads were constituted by the civic body on Thursday comprising officials of the State Pollution Control Board, Commissionerate Police, Forest Department and BMC.
The enforcement squads, which will start their operations from tomorrow, will have responsibilities like seizure of banned plastic or polythene materials, imposition of penalty and fines, issuing show cause notices and pre announcement on not to use plastic or polythene within the BMC area.

Pre announcements on the polythene ban were done by the squads in many localities of the city today. Encroachers of drains and footpaths have also been warned to remove encroachments or they will be demolished after surprise raids by the BMC.
The squads will be assisted by two policemen during the raids. BMC in an official order today has asked officials concerned to extend all support in coordination with the squad members for an effective enforcement on polythene or plastics.
