Bhubaneswar: In view of the surge in COVID-19 cases in Bhubaneswar, the city’s civic body has decided to engage more hospitals in a phased manner, informed Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary on Thursday.
Chaudhary said that at present there are two hospitals in the city to manage the situation. Many patients are undergoing treatment at the hospitals and there are sufficient numbers of beds available.
However, BMC is in contact with other hospitals that were working with the civic body for Covid management and efforts are underway to engage them in a phased manner at the right time in the coming days.
He informed that checking of passengers as per Government guidelines is underway at the airport and railway station. Enforcement activities, supervision of home isolation patients, regular phone calls, and RRT visits are also been undertaken.
However, in view of the rate of the surge in infections, Chaudhary requested the people to wear masks and maintain social distance whenever they go outdoors for essential activities. He asked them not to leave the house for non-essential activities.
The BMC Commissioner said that there are likely chances that people may get infected if they do not wear masks and maintain social distance. He urged all to respect the appeal of the Chief Minister to battle the Covid war strongly with discipline.
