Bhubaneswar: As the scare of the resurgence in the pandemic Covid-19 and its other highly mutated variants is looming large over this State in the wake of such alarming situation being reported in some other States of the country as well as foreign countries, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to immediately set up a testing desk at the international airport here in the capital city.
This was informed today by BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary during his interactions with media persons here.
“We haven’t yet taken any decision on the railway station here, but we have already decided yesterday to set up a testing centre by today evening or tomorrow morning at the Bhubaneswar airport,” said the BMC Commissioner.
He explained, “The flight passengers coming here from the affected States will be screened at the airport. It isn’t a mandatory testing. During the screening if any symptom detected, the passenger concerned will be kept for mandatory testing.”
Responding to further media query, the BMC Commissioner informed, “The average positive number under BMC limits is going like the previous one month. No large fluctuation being observed. So, we are now into only precautionary measures. We have improved our enforcement activity. We have also started improvising our intensity of contact tracing. We’re trying to increase the testing number.”
“If one case of positive is detected now, we’ll be now intensifying the contact tracing efforts. Either those contact traced persons will be tested or kept under surveillance for five days. Our Covid hospitals are still functioning, not closed,” he clarified.
