Bhubaneswar: Six fishermen had a narrow escape after their boat capsized in the Bay of Bengal off the coast of Talasari under Jaleswar police limits in Balasore district on Thursday. Unfortunately, a seventh crew member is still missing, and a search operation is underway to locate him.
The mishap occurred when the fishermen’s boat was hit by another vessel and overturned due to strong waves and high tide while returning from fishing.
According to reports, the fishermen set sail on a boat early Thursday morning. While returning with their catch, their boat was struck by another vessel near Talasari beach, about 3 km into the sea. The boat overturned, and all fishermen fell into the water.
Fortunately, they managed to swim ashore. Two of the fishermen are critically injured and have been admitted to Digha Hospital. The others are reported to be safe.
However, one among them went missing after the boat capsized.
On a tip-off, Talasari police and fire fighting team have launched a search operation to trace the missing fisherman.
