Krushnaprasad: A boat ferrying 20 passengers to the Maa Kalijai temple got stuck in the middle of the Chilika Lake, Asia’s largest brackish water lake, on early Saturday for lack of visibility due to thick fog.
The passengers were on the way to the Maa Kalijai temple to observe special rituals on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and were stuck near the Gantagarh.
As per reports, poor visibility due to heavy fog forced the boat to come to a standstill. The boat resumed movement after several hours after the fog cleared.
The local administration has temporarily suspended boat services from Balugaon in the wake of the incident. “The stranded boat has reached Kalijai island. Since visibility is still low, we have decided to suspend boat service for now,” Balugaon SDPO Manas Ranjan Barik told the media.
According to mythology, the King of Krishnaprasad himself visits the Shakti Peeth temple on this auspicious day.
