Bhubaneswar: The body of a Rourkela ITI student was fished out of the Koel river in Rourkela on Monday. According to reports two students of the institute, who had gone to the Bnhamuna area for a picnic, drowned in the Koel river on Sunday. While the body of one was recovered yesterday, the other student’s body was fished out of the river today.

The deceased students have been identified as Aniket Barda and Mukesh Mahant.

A group of eight students of Rourkela ITI had gone to the Banhmunda area for a picnic on Sunday. After lunch, they went to bathe in the nearby Koel river and two of them ventured into deep waters and drowned.

Hearing the cries of the students for help, locals rushed to the river bank and tried to rescue the two drowning students. On being informed, police and Fire Services personnel reached the spot and undertook a rescue operation. They were successful in fishing out one student’s body on Sunday evening but had to abandon the rescue operation as it became dark.

After the rescue operation resumed on Monday morning, Fire Services personnel fished out the second body. Police have sent the two bodies for post-mortem and launched a probe into the two drowning deaths.
