Jajpur: The body of CRPF jawan Surya Kanta Kuanar, who went missing from Sompur village under Erasma police station limits in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on April 17, was found hanging from a tree on a hilltop near Dhanmandal under Ladchana police station limits in Jajpur district on Thursday.
According to reports, Surya Kanta left his home in Sompur village on Tuesday and when he did not return home, a relative, Vikas Mohanty, filed a missing report at the Erasma police station.
The motorbike of the jawan was spotted near a hillock in the Jajpur district on Wednesday leading to a search for the missing jawan. While the police were unable to trace his whereabouts on Wednesday, the Jajpur SP formed three teams including local police and Forest Department personnel under the Jajpur SDO Sanjay Patnaik, and launched an extensive search for Surya Kanata. Finally, the search party recovered his body hanging from a tree in a dense jungle atop a hill near Dhanmandal.
The police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. An unnatural death case has been registered in this connection. Meanwhile, a scientific team has reached the spot for further investigation into the jawan’s death.
Jajpur SDO Sanjay Patnaik said that since the death of the jawan was under mysterious circumstances, they have sought the services of a scientific team to ascertain the reason behind his death.
The jawan’s relative Vikas Mohanty has demanded a thorough probe into the matter as he is of the view that Surya Kanta might have been killed or forced to commit suicide. “Time and again, I have requested his family members to file an FIR with the Jajpur police but they have refrained from filing a missing report. They did not even visit the spot after Surya Kanta’s motorbike and body were found. I suspect foul play in the entire case,” he added.
