Body Of Detainee Who Fled From Police Custody Found In Mahanadi At Jobra

Cuttack: The body of a detainee in a mobile theft case was retrieved from the bank of river Mahanadi at Jobra here on Saturday morning. The deceased, identified as Sankarsan Behera was a native of Bidanasi and had been detained by the police on Friday.

According to the police, Behera had pushed aside a sentry at the police station and fled from custody. However, the family of the deceased held the police responsible for the mishap. Police and Fire Service personnel retrieved the body of Behera and sent it for autopsy to SCB Medical College and Hospital.

Behera’s mother Basanti said that he fled from police custody fearing torture and drowned in the river. Additional DCP Anil Mishra said that an inquiry has been initiated into the incident.
