Bhubaneswar: Fire Services personnel on Friday morning fished out the body of the 14-year-old boy who was swept away by the strong currents of the Daya river on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Thursday evening. The mishap took place while the boy, a resident of Indira Colony in Lingipur, was bathing in the river.
According to eyewitnesses, while bathing, the boy suddenly slipped into the deep water and was swept away. On seeing this, locals informed the Fire Services, who immediately launched a rescue operation. Two scuba divers were also engaged in the rescue operation but they could not trace the boy till late Thursday night.
The rescue operation was resumed on Friday morning and his body was recovered after four hours of extensive search.
While the body has been sent for autopsy, police are now investigating whether the boy had gone to the river alone or he was accompanied by friends.
