Bhubaneswar: The body of a minor girl was recovered from a pond at Barakul village in Jajpur district on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Amrita Das, was a student of Std 9.
Her family suspects that Amrita might have been killed over the ongoing dispute following an eve-teasing incident.
Some youths had passed lewd comments on Amrita around two to three days back and she had retaliated. The family suspects that her death is related to this incident as the youths had threatened her with dire consequences.
Amrita went missing after her tuition on Friday evening. As she did not return home, the family members launched a search and spotted her’s bag and cycle near a pond at Nandipur chowk under Mangalpur police limits.
Later, the body of the class 9 girl was fished out from the pond. The police have initiated an investigation into the incident and sent the body for autopsy.
