Bhubaneswar: The body of the boatman who went missing while ferrying five tourists in Chilika Lake in Khurda for dolphin sighting in the Satapada area on Wednesday was fished out of the lake near Puri on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Bikram Jali (55), a native of Balabhadra village near Satapada.
According to reports, the boatman fell into the lake while he was restarting the engine of the boat.
On Wednesday afternoon, Jali took the tourists from West Bengal on his boat into the Chilika Lake. After receiving an emergency call from the stranded tourists, police along with Fire Services personnel and local boat operators launched a rescue operation yesterday but could not trace the whereabouts of Jali. However, the tourists were brought back to the shore safely.
