Sundargarh: The body of one of the two youths who had gone missing after being swept away by strong currents while bathing in Ib River at Kanakunda canyon has been recovered today after 40 hours.

The body was found stuck between rocks near Mayabahal Dangaghat in Jamuna Panchayat under Subdega block.

According to reports, the youths, identified as Roshan Pashwan and Jaynarayan Patra from Govindpur police station area in Sambalpur district, were bathing at the scenic spot of Kanakunda on Wednesday when they were swept away by the strong currents.

The body of one of the youths was recovered nearly 40 hours after they went missing.

The body recovered from the river has been identified as that of Roshan Pashwan. His family members identified him from a tattoo on his hand.

Meanwhile, police are working to locate the other missing youth.

Notably, the stunning Kanakunda canyon with its jaw-dropping scenic beauty draws tourists and visitors from far-flung areas. Ignorant of the current of the water, the youths were taking a bath in the danger zone of the river, which is generally avoided by the locals. The river’s water level has increased significantly due to the recent heavy rains, and it swept them away.
