Bolangir District Agriculture Officer Caught Taking Bribe, Arrested

Bhubaneswar: Vigilance officials today arrested the District Agriculture Officer (DAO) of Bolangir for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 from a fertilizer dealer for issuing a point of sale (POS) machine for his fertilizer shop.

The accused identified as Himansu Sekhar Padhi was caught red-handed by Vigilance officials of Sambalpur division, who had laid a trap to nab Padhi on the basis of the complaint filed by the fertilizer dealer, said an official press release.

The DAO was caught by Vigilance officers in his office chamber while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 from the complainant.

Vigilance officers recovered the bribe money from Padhi’s possession which was seized in presence of witnesses.

Both hands wash as well as pant pocket wash of Padhi gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him, the release stated.

Padhi has been arrested and forwarded to court. A case under section 7 of The Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered against him and is under investigation, the release further said.

Moreover, simultaneous searches have been launched on the residential rented house and office chamber of Padhi at Bolangir and his residential house at Siripur here, the release added.
