Bolangir: Two persons were arrested from Bhanisha village under Patnagarh police in Odisha’s Bolangir district on Wednesday and fake Rs 500 currency notes worth Rs 1.37 lakh were seized from their possession.

The arrested have been identified as Barun Panuan of Bhainsha village and Rohit Bastia of Budhabahal village under Deogaon police station.

According to reports, the organisers of a ‘sankirtan’ (religious chanting) in Bhainsha village last Friday paid fake Rs 500 notes to the artists. When the artists realised that they had received fake currency notes they informed the villagers about the fraud.

It was found that Barun Panuan had given the fake Rs 500 notes to the artists and a case was filed against him. Based on the complaint Patnagarh police started an investigation into the matter and raided Barun Panuan’s house.

During the raid, police seized 274 fake Rs 500 notes, a computer, a printer, paper, and ink used for fake notes. Further investigation of the cop revealed Bastia’s involvement in the case.

Speaking about the incident, Patnagarh SDPO Sadananda Pujhari informed the media that the accused have been arrested and forwarded to the court.
