Bolangir Woman Sold By Husband In Rajasthan, Rescued

Bolangir: A woman from Bolangir district of Odisha who was sold by her husband in Rajasthan has been successfully rescued by police, said sources on Saturday.

Reportedly, Rebati (name changed) of Saintala area in Bolangir had come in contact with Saroj Rana of Sulekela village under Belpara police limits through Facebook and fell in love. Later, they had a traditional wedding with the blessings of both families.

Three months after marriage, citing some financial issues, Saroj asked Rebati to work in a brick kiln and both left for Raipur. From there, they went to a village in Rajasthan.

However, Saroj sold Rebati to a person there and called her parents alleging she has eloped with somebody. Doubting him, her parents lodged a complaint at Belpara Police Station.

Based on the complaint, Belpara Police initiated a probe and was able to trace and rescue Rebati and reunite her with her parents. Police also arrested Saroj.
