**Rio de Janeiro**: Indian athletes are yet to put a good show in the ongoing Rio Olympics but Indian music has certainly caught the imagination of world athletes when a Mexican pair – Karem Achach and Nuria Diosdado performed to a Bollywood chartbuster, at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre here on Monday.
The pair, participating at the synchronised swimming event at the day 10- of sporting extravaganza, performed to the Indian hit song of ‘Aila Re Aila’ from the film ‘Khatta Meetha’, that starred famous Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar.
The song sung by popular Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi and Kalpana Patowary, a folk singer from Assam while music helmed by Pritam Chakraborty.
Karem Achach and Nuria Diosdado, who stormed into the final after scoring 170.6601 points, performed inside the poll playing to the Bollywood hit number.
The final is scheduled to be held on August 16 (Tuesday).
Synchronised swimming is a hybrid form of swimming, dance and gymnastics, consisting of swimmers (either solos, duets, trios, combos, or teams) performing a synchronised routine of elaborate moves in the water, accompanied by music. Athletes can perform solos and compete in most other competitions.
