Cuttack: A new bone bank was inaugurated today at the Department of Orthopaedics in SCB Medical College and Hospital.
Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, the chief guest, inaugurated the bone bank. He hoped that it will pioneer innovative treatments, especially in Orthopaedic surgery.
The bank will preserve donated bones for implantation in patients in need. Local MLA Souvik Biswal, the guest of honour, emphasized the bank’s benefits for disadvantaged patients.
Prof. Dr Lucy Das, Superintendent of SCB Medical College and Hospital, highlighted the bank’s significance for patients and medical students across East India and Odisha.
A practical skills training workshop was also launched on this occasion. According to Prof. Dr Nirmal Mohapatra, Head of the Surgery Department, bones from 29 donors have already been preserved for use in upcoming surgeries
