Bhubaneswar: A cold wave is expected to engulf Odisha for the next four days, with the mercury predicted to dip below 12°C in over 10 places. The state’s capital, Bhubaneswar, is likely to experience a drop in temperature, making it a chilly winter for residents.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cold wave is expected to be more severe in the northern and interior parts of Odisha, particularly in Kandhamal district where G. Udayagiri has recorded the lowest temperature of 5.4°C.

The cold wave continues to tighten its grip on Odisha, with temperatures plummeting across multiple cities. Following G. Udayagiri, Semiliguda recorded the lowest temperature at 7.4°C. A total of 13 cities saw their night temperatures dip below 12°C.

Other places that have experienced a significant drop in night temperature include Semiliguda (7.4°C), Daringbadi (7°C), Phulbani (8°C), Rourkela (10.2°C), Jharsuguda (10.6°C), Angul (10.6°C), Keonjhar (10.8°C), Chipilima (11°C), Kirei (11.3°C), Bhawanipatna (11.4°C), Koraput (11.5°C), and Nabarangapur (11.6°C).

That apart, the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar are also experiencing a severe cold wave, with temperatures dropping to around 13°C for the first time this season. Cuttack recorded a minimum temperature of 13.6°C, while Bhubaneswar recorded 12.9°C.

According to the weather department, Bhubaneswar’s temperature has dropped by 3°C in just two days, from 16°C on Thursday to 13°C on Saturday. The city’s temperature is currently 6.4°C below normal. Similarly, Cuttack’s temperature is 5.1°C below normal.

The IMD has, meanwhile, predicted that the cold wave will continue to grip these regions, with temperatures likely to remain low for the next four days. The minimum temperature is likely to remain low, with a slight increase of 2-3°C expected only after four days.
