Bhubaneswar: An About Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker has been allegedly suspended by District Election Officer for taking part in a political rally.
Taking disciplinary action against the erring ASHA worker Sabita Pradhan of Baunsuni Health Centre, Boudh District Election Officer J Sonal issued a suspension order against Pradhan with immediate effect.
The action was taken for violating the model code of conduct of the Election Commission of India.
Going by the ECI order dated March 15, 2024 and Odisha Government Servant’s Conduct Rules 1959, no government servant shall be a member of or be otherwise associated with any political or communal organisation which takes part in politics or communal activities, nor shall he/she take part or subscribe in the aid of assist in any other manner, any political movement or activity.
As per reports, Sabita attended a rally organised by a political outfit. However, photos and videos of her attending the rally became viral. After the matter came to the fore of the District Election Officer, she ordered the District Health Officer to investigate the matter and submit a report in this regard.
Boudh District Collector took disciplinary action against Pradhan after allegations levelled against her proved true.
