Boudh Deputy Collector Arrested On Charges Of Torturing Wife, Granted Bail

Jharsuguda: The police here today arrested Deputy Collector of Boudh Sarat Bag on charges of torturing his wife. Bag’s wife had lodged a complaint with police levelling charges of torture against her husband. Jharsuguda SP Rahul PR informed that Bag has been arrested under Section 498 A of the IPC.

According to the complaint, Bag was involved in an extra-marital affair. On September 26, his wife followed and caught him with another woman at a deserted house in Jharsuguda. At the spot, she was allegedly assaulted by Bag. She was verbally abused by Bag’s girlfriend and also threatened at gunpoint, the complaint stated.

Bag’s wife Dolia Debnath managed to escape from the spot. She reached BTM police station on the same day and lodged a formal complaint against her husband. On the basis of Dolia’s complaint, local police registered a case and arrested the Deputy Collector.

Later in the day, Bag was granted bail by a local court with one surety and a bail bond of Rs 50,000. Bag’s lawyer said that the court has directed Bag to fully cooperate with the investigating agency and not intimidate or threaten the complainant, while granting him bail. “It is a domestic dispute,” his lawyer added.
