Boudh: A man was critically injured after being shot multiple times by his wife’s brother over a minor quarrel in Tilapanga village under Manamunda police limits. The shocking incident took place on Thursday and has triggered tension in the locality.
The injured, identified as Byomakesh Khatua of Gudupada village under Baunsuni police station, had gone to his in-laws’ house in Tilapanga when an argument broke out with his brother-in-law.
According to preliminary reports, the quarrel escalated quickly, prompting the accused to bring out a gun kept in the house and fire five rounds at Byomakesh. Two bullets hit him on the hand, while three struck near his chest.
Family members immediately rescued the grievously injured man and rushed him to Baunsuni Community Health Centre. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Sonepur District Headquarters Hospital and later referred to VIMSAR, Burla, where he remains in critical condition.
After the firing, the accused fled from the spot. Police said the exact reason behind the altercation is yet to be ascertained and an investigation will begin once a formal complaint is lodged.
