Bhubaneswar: In a bizarre incident, residents of a colony in Boudh district sought police help after a stray puppy went missing.
The colony residents, who had adopted a mix-breed dog named Chhaki that gave birth to four adorable puppies two months ago, are beside themselves with worry and anger.
At the centre of the storm is Motu, one of the four puppies, who has been stolen from the residential colony. The residents, who had grown attached to the puppies, are devastated by the loss and are demanding justice.
“We have developed a special bond with the puppies, Motu in particular. We have been taking care of Motu like a baby. His disappearance has left us heartbroken. Motu’s mother Chhaki and siblings are also missing Moto badly,” said a resident.
Meanwhile, the residents, who have put up a notice warning potential puppy thieves of severe consequences, including a penalty of Rs 2,000 and physical punishment, are urging the police to trace the missing puppy.
“We are not going to take this lying down. We want Motu back. This is not the first time that the colony has been targeted by miscreants. Earlier, there were attempts to steal puppies from the locality, and a calf was stolen and sold just a few days ago. The residents are fed up with the lack of security and the impunity with which thieves operate in their area”, said another resident.
Till the last report came in, the search operation for Motu was underway.
As the search for Motu continues, the residents are determined to protect their beloved pets and their neighbourhood from those who seek to harm them.
