Bhubaneswar: Large parts of Odisha continued to reel under intense heat on Friday, with several districts recording temperatures close to or above 38°C, according to the evening bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department’s Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.
Boudh emerged as the hottest place in the state, recording a scorching 39.0°C, followed closely by Titilagarh at 38.5°C and both Hirakud and Nuapada at 38.0°C each. Sambalpur also remained severely hot at 37.8°C, while Jharsuguda registered 37.4°C.
The state capital Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 35.1°C, while Cuttack reported 34.6°C, indicating persistently high day temperatures in coastal regions as well.
Among other districts, Balangir and Angul recorded 36.4°C and 36.1°C respectively, while Talcher and Nabarangpur stood at 36.5°C and 36.0°C. Several districts, including Gopalpur, Balasore, and Jajpur, reported temperatures in the range of 34–35°C.
Minimum temperatures across the state remained relatively high, contributing to uncomfortable conditions. Night temperatures hovered between 19°C and 26°C, with Puri and Gopalpur recording among the highest minimum temperatures at 26.5°C, indicating warm and humid nights in coastal belts.
Humidity levels remained elevated in many areas, particularly in coastal districts, where relative humidity during morning hours exceeded 80–90% in places like Boudh, Puri, and Nayagarh, intensifying the discomfort.
Rainfall activity was largely negligible across the state. Only light rainfall was recorded in isolated places, including Bhubaneswar (10.4 mm), Nayagarh (2.0 mm), and Paralakhemundi (1.4 mm), while most other stations reported dry conditions.
The IMD has indicated that the prevailing hot and humid weather conditions are likely to continue, with interior districts particularly vulnerable to heatwave-like situations in the coming days.
