Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Monday arrested a student from the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Bhubaneswar in connection with the alleged suicide of Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B.Tech student from Nepal.
The accused has been identified as Advik Srivastava, a third-year Mechanical Engineering student at the University and it is alleged that he was her boyfriend.
A police official confirmed, “The accused has been arrested and is being questioned. We are continuing the investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the girl’s death.”
According to reports, Prakriti was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the evening of February 16 at the university’s hostel campus. She had been in a three-year relationship with Advik.
However, their relationship became strained when Advik received a job offer and moved away, which led to a misunderstanding between the two.
The incident has sparked protests among students, many of whom are demanding justice for Prakriti.
In the wake of the incident, the university’s Registrar’s office issued a notice instructing all Nepali students to leave the campus.
“The university is closed sine die for all international students from Nepal. They are hereby directed to vacate the university campus immediately on 17th February, 2025,” the notice read.
