Sundargarh: Even before one could come out of the shock over the rape and murder of a minor in Nayagarh, horror struck again as an 18-year-old tribal girl was reportedly gang-raped by three men in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
According to reports, three persons, including two minors, waylaid the girl when she had gone to witness the Karma festival in her village under Kutra police limits in Rajgangpur of Sundargarh district on September 16 night. One of the accused is said to be the girl’s ‘boyfriend’ who was joined by two friends in taking turns on the victim. The three gang-raped the young girl and fled the area.
According to Rajgangpur SDPO Abhishek Panigrahi, the matter came to the fore after the victim along with her parents lodged a written complaint at Kutra police station. Acting on the complaint and the victim’s statements, Kutra police launched a manhunt and succeeded in arresting the three accused.
Rajgangpur SDPO told the media, “Since this is a sensitive incident, I don’t want to reveal more details. But, the incident occurred on September 16 and we have arrested the three accused and further probe is underway. Both the accused and the victim party were known to each other.”
“The victim had gone to witness the Karama festival when the accused took her to a secluded place where they gang raped her. Age verification of the accused is underway and necessary actions will be taken after we confirm of their respective age,” Panigrahi further stated.
