Bhubaneswar: Family members of a Plus II student who was declared brain dead by the doctors at the SCB Medical College & Hospital (SCBMC&H) in Cuttack donated the two kidneys of their son to save the lives of two persons.
Son of Ramesh Das of Nayakote village under Pattamundai Block in Kendrapara district Om Sibu(18) was suffering from a brain tumour and was undergoing treatment at SCBMC&H since January 17 and was declared brain dead on Thursday.
The parents of Sibu then decided to donate his kidneys to give a lease of new life to others.
They later discussed the matter with the authorities of SCBMC&H about their wish to donate their son’s kidneys.
On their request, the medical authorities retrieved Sibu’s kidneys with the help of the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO).
According to SCBMC&H sources, one of Sibu’s kidneys will be transplanted in a patient at SCBMC&H and the second has been provided to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for transplantation.
