Kalahandi: Several houses and agricultural fields in Depur village under Kalampur block in Odisha’s Kalahandi district have been flooded due to a 20-foot breach in the Indravati South Canal on Sunday night.
Water entered the houses at night when people were sleeping causing panic-stricken people to rush out of their homes. Household items and furniture are said to have been damaged while standing crops were destroyed in the agricultural fields. In some places, the water level is about 5 feet.
The entire village has been submerged under water compelling people to spend the night at elevated places outdoors. The villagers have alerted the district administration regarding the situation.
