Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Bargarh on Monday convicted Ambuja Devi, former Supervisor of ICDS in Bargarh district (Urban) and sentenced her to two years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in connection with a bribery case.
According to an official press release, Ambuja Devi had been charge-sheeted under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The charges pertain to her alleged demand and acceptance of a bribe from a newly appointed Anganwadi Worker.
The Special Judge of Vigilance in Bargarh, after examining the evidence presented during the trial, found her guilty and awarded a sentence of two years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance has stated that it will initiate proceedings with the competent authority to stop the pension benefits of the convicted official.
